Health, Transitions and Continuity in the Life Trajectories of Indigenous Men and Boys in Urban Settings

Tabled under Canada’s Men and Boys’ Health Strategy, this position paper by the RCAAQ sheds light on the realities Indigenous men and boys experience in urban areas—including service disruption, discrimination and unsupported life transitions—and the importance of providing them with ongoing support that is culturally safe and tailored to their life trajectories. It highlights the essential role Native Friendship Centres play in promoting cultural safety, belonging and the continuity of care in a community setting. The RCAAQ’s recommendations would sustainably enhance the wellness of Indigenous men and boys by fully recognizing the challenges and needs of urban Indigenous life.
