Social investment, economic prosperity: the essential role of Native Friendship Centres

Position paper tabled with the Department of Finance Canada as part of the pre-budget consultations.

It is urgent to address the systemic inequalities faced by Indigenous people living in urban areas, particularly in health, housing, and access to services. Recognizing Native Friendship Centres as key providers of culturally safe services is essential to meet the growing needs of First Nations and Inuit. Investing in their infrastructure and organizational capacity would help build a strong network rooted in Indigenous realities. The government must act to ensure equitable access to services, regardless of place of residence.
