Repairing connections, securing paths: building a community-based response to the sexual exploitation of Indigenous people in urban settings

Position paper tabled with the Quebec Ministère de la Sécurité publique and its partners on sexual exploitation.

The sexual exploitation of Indigenous individuals in urban areas is a persistent and often invisible reality, deeply tied to contexts of precarity, hidden homelessness, and identity disruption. Native Friendship Centres offer culturally safe approaches rooted in Indigenous knowledge to support victims with respect and dignity. It is essential to recognize urban Indigenous expertise, support adapted living environments, and transform institutional practices to build a just and sustainable response.
