Closing persistent gaps: Ensuring investment in health, justice and education for Indigenous people in urban settings
Tabled by the RCAAQ as part of the provincial 2026–2027 pre-budget consultations, this position paper calls on the Gouvernement du Québec to make sustainable investments in health, justice and education to close the persistent gaps experienced by urban Indigenous people and to ensure equitable access to culturally safe services.
The RCAAQ asks the government to grant stable, recurring funding in full recognition of the Centres’ key role in meeting the health, justice and education needs of Indigenous people in urban areas. The paper also emphasizes the importance of long-term investments in supporting the continuity and development of culturally safe health and wellness services, enhancing accompaniment in the justice system and ensuring the full implementation of the Native Friendship Centre Movement’s Education Strategy. Such support will contribute to building a more equitable and inclusive society.
